Dear Sir/Madam and Whoever this may concern,
I am writing this letter in reply to the job vacancy that you have advertised about Graphic Design.
I feel i am a good candidate for this job because i have skills in the computer design area of work, i have been designing my own ideas on computers from a very young age. I have high quality skills in Photoshop and feel i can accomplish high quality final outcomes in this programme. I also have basic skills in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Dreamweaver, i am currently working on building these skills to a higher level of quality.
I am a very hard worker and enjoy getting told to design and create my own ideas when it comes to a particular subject, i feel that i would be able to bring my own skills into the workplace to combine them with other Co workers to create an amazing team. I work well with other people and get on well with almost everyone. I have good track of time and love being infront of the computer.
I hope you will consider me as a optional candidate for this job
Yours Faithfully,
Paige Herd.

Company name: Moss Bros / work experience
Location: London
Dates Of Employment: 05/10/11 – 09/10/11
The company is quite a well-known suit designer and maker. They specialise in designing high quality suits. I worked in the Graphic Design part of the company, helping design backdrops for the shop windows and also helping come up with ideas for the London 2012 Olympics; I managed to easily find my way around London using the tube and trains. I really enjoyed working here as everybody was very down to earth.
Company name: Kings School Nursery / work experience
Location: Plymouth
Dates Of Employment:
I worked at my little sisters nursery for 2 weeks.. Both at different times that I enjoyed, but I knew that I wouldn’t like to pursue this as a career in the future. It was all a bit messy for me and chaotic. However I did enjoy the experience but definitely would not do it again.

Hobbies & Interests:
Im a very homely girl I enjoy going to the cinema with my friends and just hanging and having sleepovers. One of my all time favourites is attending concerts, I enjoy watching movies at home with the family and love animals. I have a very strong opinion about some things but I don’t often speak my mind, I am very quiet but when you get to know me I become comfortable in whatever I do.
My current personal & technical skills.
I got into computers from quite a young age, i must have been about 9 when i started to use the most basic drawing tool on the computer 'Paint'. I enjoyed working on little painting and making basic shapes turning it into little pictures .. the things i used to do where using the circles to create fish and the spray tool to create stars and so on...
The second Programme i went to when i got my own first computer was PhotoImpact which i thought was really good in different ways .. but really it has nothing on Photoshop .. the differences where in Photo Impact you couldn't rotate images and get into the picture or design as much as you wanted to.
When i first found out about Photoshop i was in Secondary school, i had Twitter and was seeing all of the amazing backgrounds and icons that people had. I was also really into the twilight saga and watched tutorials on how to create the twilight vampire look on images i tried attempting these tutorials in Photo Impact and they came out nothing like what i wanted them to, i eventually got Photoshop and i had no idea how to use it or what each tool was for.. i had to teach myself how to use it as at this point i didn't know anything about photoshop.
Now i feel i am capable to attempt and create any design i think of in Photoshop, i am very confident using the programme for making moving images, icons, background i love drawing digital images and manipulating different images .. i also like re-creating movie posters and album covers doing my own design. I feel i have loads of skills in photoshop and considering i thought myself how to use it i feel proud of how far i have come.

Personal Statement
I have always been interested in Graphic design and the stages of the design. I have always been really interested in the Album cover movie poster side of things, like advertisements and so on. I am really interested in doing a Graphic Design course also because I am a massive computer person .. I love designing new things in photoshop and trying new colours on images. Mainly the computer editing part and the image manipulation, I have always liked experimenting in Photoshop making my own designs of Movie posters and CD covers.
From the course I would like to improve my Photoshop and editing skills, I would also like to learn new skills that I can add on to some pieces of my work that I have already done. I would also like to try and work with different programmes and come out of my comfort zone.
I have always been good on computers from a very young age and something that I am comfortable and good with.
In the future I would love for Graphic design to be my job, it would be a dream come true... It’s something I have always loved and aspired to be. I like to try new things in Photoshop … like new colours, effects, fonts etc.
I really enjoy using Photoshop as a way of editing my photos; it’s the programme I always use in an every day even for my own photography. I taught myself how to use it as I was at this time currently at secondary school.

Portfolios
I have researched some Portfolios ... obviously that has something to do with what i'm interested in. I have always been interested in movie poster designs and CD covers .. also image manipulating. So i have found a few Examples of each.
Movie Poster Portfolio: Movie Poster Portfolio
I have found this movie poster portfolio, the things i like about this Portfolio is that its modern and easy to get around, you can look at this persons work easily and quickly. You can also see all the information about his work .. he has made DVD covers also .. which is also interesting. His style isn't the kind of thing that i would really go for but i guess if you want to be a designer you have to fit in with the work your given.
Another Movie Poster Portfolio: 2
I don't really like this portfolio very much, it all seems a bit messy and un-organised. Obviously he has just started out making & designing his own movie posters but for movies that have already been out. But it is good that hes thinking of his own ideas but they look the same as what the actual poster looked like.

Graphic Designer:
Qualifications
Many graphic designers have some form of HND or degree level qualification in an area of design in order to gain sound knowledge of art/design history and techniques. In order to study at this level, a foundation course often has to be completed.
However, job offers are often based on experience and portfolios. This means that a degree or HND is not always required, however, work experience is almost essential as is a portfolio.
Many graphic designers undertake some form of work experience in the industry during their studies. This provides them with some all-important work experience as well as material for their portfolio. Competition is fierce and the majority of graphic designers have higher qualifications so entry without formal training or qualifications can be very difficult although is not impossible.

Competition is fierce and the majority of graphic designers have higher qualifications so entry without formal training or qualifications can be very difficult although is not impossible.
Apart from formal qualifications, most training is on the job although employees will often fund training courses in graphic design software that is specific to the industry. Graphic designers must be able to use a variety of programs such as Quark Xpress, FreeHand, Illustrator, Photoshop, 3D Studio Max, Acrobat, Director, Dreamweaver and Flash. Designers in specific fields may also require further training, for example media designers may need some knowledge of special effects systems. Much of this knowledge is acquired as and when it is needed for certain projects and graphic designers must continue training throughout their careers to keep abreast of the latest graphic design software and technology.
Graphic designers can also become members of a number of professional organisations, which provide useful resources, advice and training programmes. The Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) offers in-house training and a continuous professional development programme for graphic designers and design companies, while the Design Association (DA) offers a diploma, although this is more management orientated.
Skills
Obviously, graphic designers must demonstrate creative flair and drawing ability. They also have to be:
§ Meticulous when it comes to detail and accuracy
§ Enthusiastic
§ Well-disciplined (especially if they work freelance)
§ Flexible
§ Patient
§ Organised
§ Team player
§ And possess good communication and presentation skills
How reach this goal.
I would hopefully go onto a higher education course either here in the Art college or in university. The university I haven’t decided yet.
University is a possibility but I have to look into it more.
Work experience:
i went up to London for a week in the summer holidays and worked in a graphic design area of a suit company 'moss bros'. I had a really interesting time whilst i was up there, i experienced the manic work times they had but to my surprise i actually enjoyed every minute of it.
University courses:
Norwhich university course: Norwhich Graphic design course
Graphic design course 2
The kind of job that i want to hopefully achieve would be either designing movie posters or CD covers covers, stuff for magazines! the main reason being that i love designing these kind of things.
Graphic design jobs i have been looking at:
Job Listings.
I'm a big fan of Comic relief and have always been interested in designing something along the line of a topic to do with that. I have found this Job who the employers are Comic relief, the job location is in London .. which may be a bit tricky because of finding somewhere to stay, paying for yourself and so on. But it is something along the lines of what i would like to do in the future, the plus side is that its a charity and the designs are going to be more fun and colourful.
